Coming from a humble background in Johannesburg, Kagiso Rabada always knew what is required to be a capable option for the South African bowling arsenal. KG, as he is fondly called, is a fiery pacer who delivers great line and length with attacking attributes and that too at a very young age to establish himself as a bowling prodigy.
Rabada made his List A debut for Gauteng against Border in 2013. Although his debut doesn't define how effective and efficient he will be as a future product for the cricketing fraternity. He was picked for the U19 World Cup in 2014 where his rise to fame began and from there on it's all been rosy for him. Kagiso claimed 14 wickets in 5 matches in the mega event and his hostile spell of 6/25 against Australia created havoc. He was tagged as the most fearsome bowler and finished the tournament as one of the leading wicket-takers.
This little spark of promise didn't go unnoticed and the selectors made sure he gets enough opportunities to turn this spark into a fire. Rabada made his T20I debut in 2014 against Australia and soon he was picked in the ODI squad for the series against Bangladesh. Kagiso made a smashing ODI debut in 2015 where he picked up a 6-wicket haul against Bangladesh to become only the second bowler to do so on debut and only the second bowler to get a hat-trick on debut.
It became increasingly difficult to keep eyes away from this speedster and eventually he was selected in the Test team to tour India. So much sunlight on the career at such an early stage made Rabada even more lethal and he proved his mettle in the home Test series against England in 2016. He snapped 22 wickets and picked up a 10-wicket haul in a Test match also.
In January 2018, Kagiso Rabada took five wickets in the first Test match against India and then was eventually ranked number 1 in ICC Test Rankings. Soon, he became the youngest bowler to take 150 Test wickets and was also the leading wicket-taker in the year 2018. Rabada was named the best young player by Wisden and also won CSA's Player of the Year Award.
The word ruthless defines his bowling best and he has been delivering for his team more often than not. The speedster played for Delhi in the Indian T20 League and the year 2019 was very successful for him as he was second in the list for most wickets in that season. KG went one step ahead in the following season to scalp 30 wickets and finished as the most successful bowler of the edition. Rabada surely has raised the bar for the quickies and he is destined for greatness.
Along with Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada seems to be holding the mantle of the most feared and talented pace bowlers in the world in this generation. Going by his achievements so far, one should not be surprised if he just goes bigger and better in his cricket accolades.
